A Case of Klebsiella Pneumoniae Endogenous Ophthalmitis by Early Diagnosis and Treatment

Abstract
Purpose: To Report and review a case Prognosis of Klebsiella Pneumoniae endogenous endophthalmitis by early diagnosis and treatment.

Case summary: A-52-year-old female hospitalized in internal medicine department for 2 days with liver abscess by Klebsiella pneumoniae was referred to us in consultation on the day of patient first complained her ocular pain and visual loss in her left eye. Ophthalmologic evaluation and antibiotic treatment were performed. Culture revealed Klebsiella pneumoniae from anterior chamber of the left eye. Systemic antibiotics, intravitreous antibiotics injection and antibiotic eye drops were performed. Additional intravitreous antibiotic injection were performed twice on day 10 and day 21, and the inflammation was cured and corrected visual acuity conserved 0.8.

Conclusions: Early diagnosis and treatment by cooperation of physicians (internist) and ophthalmologists of Klebsiella pneumoniae endogenous endophthalmitis in liver abcess patients have an important effect on the prognosis of visual acuity.
